Girlboss

(noun)

an ambitious and successful woman

A girlboss is a female powerhouse, a woman-on-the-go, and always has a caffeinated beverage. It's a way of life, describing a girl who excels at leadership, professionalism and self-empowerment.

Emily Begley is a girlboss.

She exemplifies the word in a number of ways, from completing a business minor, heading a production organization and consistently rocking a business casual outfit.  While completing her degree, she became the Artistic Director of a group entitled Musical Theatre Against the Grain (MTAG). The group aims to redefine the boundaries of musical theatre  Under her guidance, the organization was able to put up four musicals in two years, primarily with female creative teams. Musicals that ranged in style from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to A Chorus Line

She also installed an initiative within the organization, to produce original musicals at least once a year, in order to push the boundaries in every way imaginable. In collaboration with students from the Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory, original musicals were given the space to be produced on the Emerson Stages, fostering a collaborative relationship between the two institutions. The trend is to be continued long after she leaves. She is proud to have helped produce two original musicals so far, Hot Dam! and Tanner Maverick's Book of Sound.

'Girl bossing' not only describes her professional life, but also her personal one. From a young age, she has thrived off a packed schedule, participating in extracurriculars of all kinds (Math Club, choir, karate, tennis and of course, theatre). Living in a constant state of busy, the girl can't stand staying still and is always looking to learn, grow, and become the very best version of herself. While performance is her dream, she has always been interested in pursing the administration side of theatre. Fascinated with wearing multiple hats, she has had the experience of working on both sides of a show at the same time, participating as an actor and a crew member of multiple productions.

After finishing her first professional performance contract, Emily went on to pursue a fellowship at the University of Texas Austin in Event Management. Her responsibilities included managaing of all of UT Austin's Performance Facilities and working directly with toruing artists to ensure their satisfaction upon arrival and performance. She worked collaboratively with the Broadway touring companies of MJ the Musical, Peter Pan, Les Mis as well as managing artists like Alex Cooper, Dan & Phil and Lili Taylor.

While in Austin, Emily continued to grow creatively, recording and releasing her EP

Happy Days Are Here Again, which is available for streaming on all platforms.

The album includes four covers of some of Emily's favorite songs of all time, combining her love

of music theatre, jazz and rock genres.
